Wesley LongsdorfSoftware Engineer

Twenty years building software for banks, trading floors, clinics, aircraft, and heavy-duty vehicle fleets. These days my focus is front-end architecture — design systems, component libraries, and the Angular and TypeScript foundations other teams build on — backed by years of full-stack and embedded work under the hood.

01Industries

Six industries that all needed the same thing: someone who could learn the domain and then build it properly.

Banking & Finance

2022 — Present

UI architecture and a shared Angular component library at one of the largest US banks — and, back in 2014, server inventory and licensing tooling for another.

Healthcare

2017 — 2022

Patient registration, clinical scheduling, structured forms, HL7 v2.x integrations across EHR and lab systems, and outcome dashboards clinicians actually use.

Aerospace & Defense

2006 — 2011

Real-time embedded software for electronic warfare protection suites on partitioned RTOS platforms, including an assignment in Denmark.

Commodities Trading

2016 — 2017

Customer-facing portal for purchasing and managing commodity stock, carried through a major framework migration and rebranded across multiple portals.

Telecommunications

2015 — 2016

Internal diagnostic tooling for support staff triaging customer network issues, rebuilt from tangled markup into a maintainable MVVM front end.

Automotive & Fleet

2011 — 2014

Embedded diagnostics over J1939, J1708, and CAN — vehicle adapters, end-of-line manufacturing test software, and a nationwide diagnostic kiosk.

02Selected Work

Systems people depend on — described by what they had to do, not by whose logo was on the door.

Front-End2022 — now

Enterprise Component Library

Banking

A custom Angular component library and SASS framework adopted by teams across a top-five US bank. Wireframes in, consistency out — AG-Grid and Material patterns, Highcharts and JointJS integrations, and Storybook as the shared source of truth.

AngularTypeScriptSASSStorybookTailwind
Full-Stack2017 — 2022

Clinical Platform Modernization

Healthcare

A legacy 4D healthcare system rebuilt on a modern MEAN stack with PostgreSQL, without pausing the clinic. Patient registration, profile management, and scheduling modules, plus structured clinical forms and automated pre-visit and post-op email workflows.

Full-Stack2019 — 2022

HL7 Integration Layer

Healthcare

ADT, ORM, and ORU message integrations spanning EHR and lab systems — data mapping, processing logic, and missing-data reporting. Extended into web form ingestion, email processing, and real-time compliance monitoring for orthopedic precision care.

HL7 v2.xNode.jsPostgreSQLAzure
Front-End2020 — 2022

Longitudinal Outcome Dashboards

Healthcare

Multi-year patient outcome data made legible for clinicians deciding on treatment. Dense grids and charts that stay readable when the dataset spans a decade, with custom SCSS themes so each user could tune the view to their own eyes.

AngularAG-GridKendoSCSS
Front-End2016 — 2017

Multi-Brand Trading Portal

Commodities

A customer-facing portal for purchasing and managing commodity stock, carried from ExtJS 3 to 6 and rebranded across every partner. The theming work was scoped at three months; leaning on SASS inheritance instead of duplication brought it in at two weeks.

ExtJS 6JavaScriptSASSGitLab
Full-Stack2015 — 2016

Network Diagnostics Portal

Telecom

Internal tooling for support staff diagnosing customer network issues, untangled from intermixed HTML, jQuery, and PHP into a clean MVVM front end on a PHP backend. Three-tier LDAP authentication, a flat-to-relational database conversion, and the team's first real Git workflow.

PHPExtJS 5/6SQLLDAP
Embedded2006 — 2011

Partitioned RTOS Avionics Subsystems

Aerospace & Defense

Real-time C++ for electronic warfare protection suites, built against a partitioned operating system following the ARINC 653 standard. Audio management integrating multiple subsystems and forwarding data over MIL-STD-1553 to the avionics bus, from requirements through delivery.

Embedded2011 — 2014

Fleet Diagnostics & Telematics

Automotive

Embedded applications for heavy-duty vehicle diagnostics over J1939, J1708, and CAN. Adapter firmware, end-of-line test software for the manufacturing line, a nationwide diagnostic kiosk, and an on-request live video feed system running on metro bus fleets.

05Experience

Twenty years of walking into unfamiliar domains and leaving them better instrumented.

  1. Senior Front-End Developer @ Bank of America

    2022 — Present

    Charlotte, NC

Team lead for UI development and architecture. Built a SASS framework and a custom Angular component library now used by teams across the bank, drove the Tailwind and Storybook adoption that made UI consistent between applications, and mentor junior developers on TypeScript, Angular, and SASS.

06About

I'm an engineer who never picked a lane. I started in real-time embedded C++ on aircraft protection systems, spent years in full-stack healthcare platforms moving HL7 messages between hospitals and labs, and now lead UI architecture for applications used across a global bank.

What carries between them isn't a framework — it's a way of working. Learn the domain before you touch the code. Assume the person on the other end is tired and in a hurry. Build the thing so the next developer doesn't curse you. A missed frame on an ARINC 653 partition and a mislabeled button on a clinical form are the same category of mistake, just with different blast radii.

Between all of it sits the thing I love most — the details. The space between elements, the easing on a transition, the exact moment an interface feels alive. This whole site is hand-tuned to prove it.
